Northern New Jersey Council
2020 National Youth Leadership Training Course

NNJBSA NYLT is the premier youth leadership training course available to Scouts in the Northeast Region!

National Youth Leadership Training is an exciting, action-packed program designed for NNJC to provide youth members with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home units and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others.

NYLT is a six-day course where content is delivered in a troop and patrol outdoor setting with an emphasis on immediate application of learning in a fun environment. Through activities, presentations, challenges, discussions, and audio-visual support, NYLT participants will be engaged in a unified approach to leadership that will give them the skill and confidence to lead well. Participants will work and play together as they put into action the best Scouting has to offer. While NYLT is not an outdoor skills course, it is important that each participant have basic camping and outdoor cooking experience.

The benefits of having attended NYLT continues to help program graduates years later in their lives:

“What I can say is that NYLT helped me build a fairly solid foundation for teaching; I feel like it put me way ahead of some of my colleagues in terms of pedagogical strategies and openness to feedback. I’ve used my NYLT skills a few times in the past years to lead myself through challenges and keep myself focused on my vision.”

Jordan Avello

Teacher and Master’s candidate, abroad

“NYLT kicked off a decade of explosive growth for me in all areas of life. It ingrained in me a growth mindset that changed how I approach school, sports, and now, my career. Even today in my role at Google, I find myself relying on NYLT principles to drive day-to-day thinking around my work.”

Karl Gourgue
